About Me
I was first exposed to ASL and the Deaf community in 2011. Before, I had only known about sign language because I would be around my nieces and nephews watching Baby Signing Time.
When I went to my first year of college I needed some art electives and my advisor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs suggested I take ASL level 1. I had declared my major in Accounting and after my first ASL class I decided I would like to add a minor in ASL to my degree.
I had to transfer universities and ASL was no longer offered at that particular university. I decided to keep on the accounting path until I found out that a tax preparer desk job was not for me. I thought back to my passion and where I wanted my career path to take me. I decided to transfer to UVU since they offered a major in Deaf Studies and Interpreting. I have been so pleased with the change and I feel that I can be very happy with this career choice.
Internship
August 2018 - December 2018
I have the opportunity to be behind the scenes of the live interpreting services and recordings done in American Sign Language by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My duties include making sure the interpreters have their credentials and aiding in preparation for both the events and interpreters. This includes making sure the preparation material is correct, and helping the flow of the process by ensuring the atmosphere is conducive to a good work environment.
